“Well, I guess things should be fine for now,” Shiyu’s eyes shifted over to Feng Luo and Qing Chen. When they showed no signs of dramatic changes, she said, “I guess I’ll return now,”
“I’ll go with you,” Lin Fan stood up and naturally took the food box from her. “It’s about time I take a break from Cultivation. Where are you going next? What’s the plan?”
“I’m thinking of getting some seeds,” said Shiyu. The success of the Vermillion Meat gave her immense confidence. If the Vermillion Meat recipe works, then, perhaps other recipes could as well?
The balance of five flavours must be similar to the balance of five elements. If she thinks of cooking as a way of balancing various flavours, textures and ingredients together, she should prepare supplementary ingredients such as spices and aromatics to achieve this delicate balance. The plan is to get the seeds for these side ingredients and plant them in her expanded Saint’s Dwelling first before exploring the other recipes at a later date.
“Alright, let’s go and explore the marketplace together,”
“En,” Shiyu has zero complaints against this. She turned to Qi Chuyun, Xuan Yin and Dong-Fang Zhen. “What about you three? Want to come?”
“No,” Dong-Fang Zhen got to his feet and pulled Xuan Yin up with him. “My wife and I are going to Cultivate some more. You have fun,”
“… …” Shiyu turned away from these two eyesores. “Come with us, Chuyun. I haven’t shown you much of the Imperial Capital yet.”
Qi Chuyun thought for a moment before nodding.
Thus, the five friends split into two groups and left in separate directions. When Shiyu passed the great gates of the Imperial College, she found that it had been restored its former dignified tranquillity. The group of troublemakers had been sent away.
According to Xiao Qi, Imperial Capital soldiers came to the area and removed the troublemakers from the site.
As for the offensive coffin that had attracted so much attention, it had been taken away as well. [1] Only, while the soldiers were trying to wrest the coffin away, one of the family members threw themselves dramatically onto the coffin. The flimsy wooden structure broke and the corpse rolled out, shrieking in pain. For a moment, everyone just stood there staring at the shrieking ‘corpse’.
[1] Everyone was too shocked to do anything when the corpse rolled to its feet and ran away. There was pandemonium for a while and the incident was later dismissed as an attempt to defame the College. The entire family of the ‘corpse’ later found themselves soundly cursed by everyone. So much so that they could hardly step out of their house without people pointing and swearing at them. Clearly, they could no longer live within the Capital. The last they heard of this family was that they were seen packing their bags in preparation to leave the city.
Thus was the slightly amusing end to a potentially explosive incident. Though there were many suspicions, the Dean clearly did not wish to pursue the matter further. The matter had been resolved via this quick and crude method.
Nothing had been resolved, but Shiyu believed that the Dean must have his reasons for dealing with the matter this way.
Whatever, leave it to the professionals to take care of matters their own way. The reputation of the College is out of her hands, so let’s not think about it anymore!
Their job as Champions was to get stronger and give the audience a good performance.
As the three of them made their way to the trading market, Shiyu said to Qi Chuyun, “Have you thought of trying other types of weapons?”
Qi Chuyun’s current weapon was a sword. With her Ice Attribute, though not as destructive as Thunder, having a sword added to her martial power.
“To what?” asked Qi Chuyun. As someone who came into their group later, Qi Chuyun had always been a little on the quiet side. Only speaking when spoken to.
Though they were now officially teammates, she had always felt like an outsider. A pretender trying to fit in with a group of close-knitted friends.
Sometimes, she would watch as Shiyu chat and laugh casually with the others and sometimes even joke around with Qing Chen, a trace of envy brewed in her heart.
She had tried to befriend them in the past, but every effort felt forced and she could not eliminate the sense of distance between herself and everyone. Frustrated and tired, she eventually stopped trying and turned into an invisible person. Only speaking when spoken to, appearing when needed.
“Have you ever thought about using a bow?” Shiyu suggested casually. “Since you have Ice Attribute, you could make your own arrows and increase your distance attacks. Also, the bow is much lighter than a sword and would strain the body less. If you could use the bow properly, it might even be more effective than the sword.”
Shiyu was really just thinking out loud. Switching between different types of weapons, especially on weapons where one has never trained with before would be similar to forgetting everything about the previous training and muscle memory of a lifetime and starting from scratch again. This would be quite difficult for the average person.
Qi Chuyun nodded, “I’ll thinking about it.” She had always been open-minded to well-meaning suggestions. However, whether this suggestion would be implemented or not, she’d have to think it over first.
“En, alright,” Shiyu did not push her further. Everyone has their own thoughts and ideas of how they should further their strength. She could give suggestions, but she could not make their decisions for them.
The three chatted casually as they walked together towards the trading market.
The larges market within the city was owned by the Ling Clan. It was quite busy now because the Ling Clan had sent out notices announcing that all Imperial College students would get an automatic 10% discount if they turned up in their college uniforms and give their names. The higher the strength, the greater the discount.
The three of them had left the college in casual clothes and could only reap the benefits of Patriarch Ling’s generosity some other time.
Eschewing the shops owned by the Ling Clan, they headed for the trading market filled with stalls manned by Cultivators. Most of them setting up booths to sell what they do not need or came to find something they needed.
All three strolled among the various booths in search of something useful. A few steps in, Shiyu’s eye was caught by a gold-purple stone at one of the booths. A part of the stone was mottled with impurities, but a large part of it was rich, luxuriously deep purple and shot with gold. It was so magnificent looking that people who caught sight of it would stop and stare for a while.
The stone was about the size of two fists. Shiyu walked up to the booth and weighted the stone in her hand. It was heavier than it looked, probably about a hundred catty.
“Boss, what stone is this?” asked Shiyu.
The stall owner said boredly, “Violet-Gold Precious Stone. Will exchange it for two 500-year-old Ice Flame Herb.”
Shiyu considered the stone a little longer. Finally, she nodded, “Alright.”
She has the Ice Flame Herb in hand. She had bought so many Water and Ice Attribute precious herbs at Xuan Chu Empire that her field was now riot with it.
The booth owner clearly did not expect her to make the exchange so straightforwardly. For a moment, a hint of suspicion flashed in his eyes. It immediately disappeared when Shiyu placed two stalks of 500-year-old Ice Flame Herb on his table.
He suddenly beamed. He had been looking for these herbs for a long time now. After checking and receiving the herbs, he said, “Little Girl, you have a really straightforward and refreshing attitude! Since I like you so much, you may have everything on my booth!”
After that grand announcement, he hugged the Ice Flame Herb to his chest and ran off…
Shiyu stared at the rapidly disappearing figure, “… …”
She turned her attention back to the booth. There were not many things on it. Mostly bits broken jade pieces and ancient coins with barely any Spiritual aura in them. There were a couple of scrolls on martial techniques, but… from the stuff on the table, it can’t be anything good. In short, aside from the purple stone, everything else looked more like junk.
Still, Shiyu scooped up everything on the booth. She could study them properly once she returned to the Villa. There were too many eyes here for her to comfortable look at her find.
Just as she was collecting these bits and bobs. Her eyes suddenly sharpened. A charred piece of wood was resting quietly at the far end of the table…
[Gumihou: Gumi is not sure how blocks of wood usually act. Whistling cheerfully? Do they do a little dance?]

Gumi has questions!
Halfway where?
Who’s carrying the coffin?
Or was it halfway through the demonstration?
Since the second paragraph involved ‘the family were scolded for trying to blackmail the College’, expanded this remark.

Why would they bring a live “corpse” in the first place? Why not just find a dead body somewhere? With all those cultivators around, did no one notice the “corpse” breathing?? I mean, if it’s a shut coffin, why do you need an identifiable corpse, and if it’s not, wouldn’t someone notice that corpse looks rather alive?? I’m lost.
They should have just put a dead body in it. I’d have just gotten one of my cronies to snuff one of those idiots and stick ’em into the box.
I think it’s one of author-san’s forced humorous situations. Since it’s part of the plot, I mostly left it alone and just embellished the execution.
I totally agree! I thought that’s what they did until the “corpse” jumped out 😛 I sometimes have to wonder at author-san’s funny bone…
