Chapter 320 – Fragrant Noodles (a) actually Stir-fried Double Crisp (f)

Gumihou: …Covers eyes with one hand.

Once the temperature of the oil reached a critical point, Shiyu threw in the garlic and chilli peppers that she had prepared earlier. As soon as the fresh ingredients struck the hot oil, it made sizzling ‘ci la ci la’ sounds and a burst of white smoke exploded from the wok.

[1a] Soon, the fragrance of the vegetables came out. After agitating the vegetables 10 times with her spatula, Shiyu [1b] tossed in the marinated Double Crisp [2] into the wok. As the water steamed up, her hand shook once and the ingredients within the wok were sent up to the air in a beautiful arch before falling back into the wok.

By now the fire was at its peak [3], bright tongues of flames under the wok sent the temperature soaring. The Double Crisp fell back into the wok and a swipe of the spatula spread them out evenly before another slight push of Shiyu’s wrist send them flying into the air again.

Once the heat has penetrated past the surface of the ingredients, they fell back into the pot and went through another round of heat.

She repeated this five times and on the last round, instead of letting the ingredients fall into the wok, she let them fall onto a plate covered with a layer of black sesame seeds.

When the ingredients dropped onto the plate, it was still very hot and residual heat was enough to warm up the seeds.

Spectator Liu Eleven asked, “Is it ready?”

However, Shiyu answered, “Not yet,”

“Hm? Still not done?” Liu Eleven was shocked. However, Shiyu ignored him and brought the dish out of the kitchen and to the main dining hall and laid it before Fat Cat.

“It should be just right now.”

Once the dish came out of the pan, it should be 90% done. By the time it arrives at the table, it would be perfectly cooked. [4]

“Boss, please try it!” if Fat Cat approved of her dish, she would have completed the first dish under the Heat Control chapter.

Fat Cat still looked slightly transparent but this did not hinder his ability to eat. He picked out a piece jellyfish, let it cool a bit before slowly taking a little bite.

The final evaluation for this dish is, “It’s not as good as your master’s but still barely passes the test.”

This kind of evaluation is still within Shiyu’s expectations. After all, she did have a good foundation in stir-frying. However, the road to learning is still long.

After Fat Cat was done with the tasting, Liu Eleven and Gan Ping eagerly came over with their chopsticks. As for the three cooks, they were still in a state of shock.

It was… the first time they had ever seen a talking cat.

Having been pushed aside by Liu Eleven, Shiyu suddenly laughed at the way the two men kept eating and taking turns to praise the dish. In the end, she scooped up Fat Cat in a hug and walked to the side.

“Fatty, you must miss Master a lot, right?”

“It’s not too bad,” there was a trace of melancholy in Fatty’s voice. “I’m used to being without him now. Still, it would be nice to see him.”

“You don’t talk much about master, why don’t you tell me more about him? I’d like to know about him too.”

“It’s been so long, I don’t remember much anymore,” Fat Cat nestled comfortably into her arms.

“Well, how did you meet him?”

“He probably took pity on me and took me in since he did not want me to die. Unexpectedly, after being taken in for a long time, I’d see him die before my eyes.”

“… …” this, how could anyone keep on chatting after this?!

Fat Cat’s eyes suddenly squinted and he said, “[1a] Once you reach the Eight Realm, you’ll hear stories about him. When powerful people die, they become legends. There might be some pain but people, no, monsters like him could never be forgotten.”

“… …” suddenly she had no idea what to do?

That evening, while Shiyu was looking through the stories Gan Ping had collected, Liu Eleven walked over hesitantly.

“Sister Shi, aren’t you tired of reading these every day?”

“What’s so tiring about it?” Shiyu eyed him curiously.

“Shall we go to the city next year?”

“Sure,”

“Then… when will Xiaoxiao come back?” After hovering about for half a day, Liu Eleven finally blurted out. At Shiyu’s expressionless face he quickly explained, “It’s just, hasn’t she been away for too long? I’m just asking. I thought she should be back soon but since she’s not back yet I was just a little curious.”

After Liu Eleven’s pattering explanations paused, Shiyu raised her head curiously and said, “If I’m not mistaken [1c], she should be back soon. She might have encountered some difficulty on the way. Don’t worry.”

“Really? That’s good, I’m going to Cultivate now,” with that, Liu Eleven scrambled away.

Shiyu rubbed her chin thoughtfully.

[1d] Isn’t this guy being a little too obvious?

No matter how Liu Eleven fretted, Ling Xiaoxiao did not return immediately. In fact, it was another six days before she reached Grand Martial City. Almost the same time as the group sent by Patriarch Ling.

Ling Xiaoxiao settled the Ling Clan people down first before making her way to the treehouse with Qing Chen.

As they made their way down the road, Qing Chen could not help but feel a little happy when he looked at all the different styles of houses under the snow-covered surroundings. Everything appeared interesting and filled with subtle joy.

No matter the place, so long as you know you will be meeting someone you wish to meet, it will appear lovelier than anywhere else.

In this white, snow-covered world, a cloud of pink suddenly appeared, making Qing Chen stop in his tracks.

Perhaps it was due to the late hour but there were not many people under the peach blossom trees. Perhaps only four or five people were seated together, chatting about nothing.

Just then, Shiyu stepped out of the house. There was an umbrella in her hand. After speaking to Gan Ping for a moment, she turned to make her way towards the city.

Qing Chen did not call out to her, but after a few steps, Shiyu halted and turned around. It was as though she had felt his gaze on her.

At that very moment, who knows why but the snow began to fall. The large silent flakes floated gently to the ground. Looking at the person before his eyes, Qing Chen felt as though the snow was gently falling on his heart. [5]

Strictly speaking, he did not feel that Shiyu was a particularly interesting person. She was no more lively than other girls, in fact, there were times she was even lazy. She did not like to speak much and would often move her hands before speaking nonsense. She also has a loving side to her but then again lots of other girls fit this description too.

If there is one thing about her, it was that she did not like to trouble others. In fact, this kind of person often did their best to be reliable and yet lacked a sense of security.

He had no idea what troubled her but he was willing to stand by her side and ease her heart a little. Never mind if she did not know it.

After tamping down on his emotions, he took the lead and walked over to her.

Shiyu thought there was something wrong with her eyes.

However, when Qing Chen came closer and his voice reached her ears, she found herself pleasantly surprised and certain. This guy really broke through!

“How unexpected, ah!” Shiyu no longer have plans to leave the treehouse. She began dragging him into the house, “Go in, go in, it’s starting to snow. But, why are you here? Don’t tell me you came looking for me the moment you broke through! What great brotherhood spirit, ah!”

[Gumihou: the Double Crisp arc hasn’t been completed yet but we already have subtitle change. Is the author trying to get over this arc quickly? Also, poor L11 has been forced to be the butt of some poor joke to make someone else look better…]

We now have Glossaries for CharacterCultivation TermsClan Names, Restaurants & Places

[1] Deleted Stuff, basically wrong usage of sentence connectors:

[a] However x3

[b] once again

[c] …misunderstood anything

I think the author meant to insert this in reply to L11’s gush of words. Except, she forgot to include ‘don’t misunderstand me’ in the gush of words making Shiyu’s reply too weird. Since it would just degrade L11’s character and make Shiyu look good in contrast, Gumi elected to delete this joke instead of completing it.

Readers may enjoy the next ‘bonus chapter’ comedy of errors at Shiyu’s expense instead. Which wouldn’t have happened if she had only done things properly.

[d] What’s with this ‘There’s no 300 silver teals buried here’ situation?

Deleted because the joke has been deleted as per Note [1c]

[2] ‘Marinated double crisp’? Why don’t you say jellyfish and pork kidney?

Also, ‘as the water steamed up’?

Wut dis?

[3] … the fire should have been at its peak, like, from the beginning, not in the middle of cooking.

[4] This would have been true, if it is a sauce dish. This one is… not. Also, wet ingredients in the form of jellyfish.

[5] Okay, Gumi called it. Qing Chen is the author’s Ideal Man, and his secret thoughts for Shiyu is what the author wished people would think of her. Also, 2nd ML syndrome.

Right, can we go home now?

  1. Eh...

…the mortals are more shocked about a talking cat than they are about a cultivator cooking and feeding said transparent cat stir fry?

    1. Gumihou

I guess author just remembered them and threw a random reaction for them.

  2. Hamster

I don’t like cooking firecrackers which is what happens when it’s too hot and I put something with a lot of moisture into the pan.

    1. Gumihou

It also burns food if you don’t react fast enough so…
