Eguchi Ren: Resting because my stomach isn’t well and it’s difficult to write… sorry for the short chapter. I’ll do my best next week

Gumihou: It’s a previous post, but stay healthy always, Eguchi-san

Gumihou: Also, Gumihou took liberties with the crab cooking technique because Mukouda’s method is… questionable.

“Huh? Wh-wh-what was that?”

After completing all the mission requests, we returned to the Adventurer’s Guild to give our report.

As soon as I informed Orson-san about our success, his mouth fell open and he blinked stupidly at us for a second.

“No, wait, truly? You’ve completed all the missions? All three missions?”

“Yes? I have the monsters in my [Item Box] so, if you’d like to inspect the goods…” I hinted, but Orson must have been too shocked because all he did was said ‘All three missions?’ over and over again.

“Perhaps, we could go to the warehouse or something?” I tried again.

“Ah, yes, uh, this way please,” Orson-san finally replied.

My party followed after Orson-san, who took us down the wrong way twice before we arrived at the warehouse.

“Ahem, so, the Berserker Mud Crab first, please.”

After estimating the space, I reached into my [Item Box] and slowly dragged the whole 4 tons of crab out.

Du dun~!

“… …” Orson-san was speechless.

[1]

“Ahem, once you dismantle this, we want all of the meat.”

That seemed to shake Orson-san out of his stupor. “Wait what? You want to eat it?!”

“Yes? Do people not eat it? It’s pretty delicious when boiled or grilled.”

“What- it’s, it’s first-class material for armour and shields!!”

Then, he went on and on about how Mud Crab shells are lighter than most metals and tougher than leather, how it was almost equivalent to magic iron etc etc.

“Uh, good to hear. Anyway, my familiars want to eat it so, if you can’t dismantle it for us, I’ll just take the whole thing back-”

“No, no, no, we’ll do it for you, we’ll do it for you!”

“Okay, good. Anyway, you confirmed that this is the crab that had been making trouble, right?” After getting an affirmative answer, I said. “Then, I’ll leave it in your good hands.”

“We won’t let you down!” Orson-san quickly signalled for the butchers and dismantlers. “Take it apart, make sure to take the flesh out carefully. Mukouda-sama wants it. Do it now, quick, quick.” Then, with a wide smile, he led my party to a different section of the warehouse.

“Ahem, while they work, why don’t you show me what else you have?”

I think Orson-san is really afraid I’d change my mind or something…

[1]

We finally stopped at a different part of the warehouse, out of sight of the Crab, but that’s alright since Fer and Grandpa Gon insisted on staying there and watching the dismantling process.

Anyway, I took out the Kelpie, which, while not quite as huge as the Berserker Mud Crab, was pretty long as a horse creature with the corresponding fishtail needed to support such a powerful front end.

“How about this one? I heard that doesn’t sell well, but I’m hoping you could take it off our hands.”

“Well, since you let us to have the Mud Crab, we shall take this one as well. It’s true that skinning it is pretty troublesome, but the actual hide itself repels water well and there’s a demand for Kelpie hide for carriage hoods.”

“I see, thank you for your patronage.”

“No need, no need, you have the Alligator too? How big is it?”

“It’s pretty large, but I think I can put it here, it’s more long than big,” I said as I slowly laid out the long reptile on the floor from my [Item Box]. “I’d like to keep all the meat, of course, and a small section of the skin.”

I’m sure Lambert-san would love to have some Alligator skin.

Also, well, back in my previous life, I once saw a beautiful crocodile skin accessory, but, being the poor company employee that I was, I had to give up on it because it was just too expensive.

Now that I have some Alligator skin (crocodile, alligator, who cares about the difference!) I could finally fulfil my dream of owning a nice accessory made from its skin!

“Very well, we shall process the monsters as per your request. Let’s see, it should be done in three days.”

[1]

“Three days! I want to eat the Crab now!!”

“Eh? Ah, Fer? When did you arrive?”

“Nuu, those people are being so slow, I want some now!”

“Fer-sama, we’re doing our best, we will provide you with the meat soon…”

“Not good enough. Master, let’s just take the Berserker Crab away.”

“Nooo- ahem, please don’t.”

I looked between the angry Fer and the pitiful Orson-san. Then at the crab. It was huge, they were still trying to get the shell apart, but…

“Hey, just take off the legs for us first, will you?” I said. “There’s not a lot of the shell there anyway.”

“Ah, but…”

“Or I can just take the whole thing-”

“Legs! You heard him, hack them off now!”

Very soon, eight of the comparatively thin legs were taken off and presented neatly before us. I inspected the inside and woah, as expected, it was packed full of meat.

“Oi, I want to eat the whole crab…”

“And how do you expect me to cook that thing?” I waved my hand at the huge crab with its armoured body. “[2a] Even if we manage to boil it somehow, we still have to take it out of the shell. Since it’s so large, even if could stick it in a pot or a Water Ball large enough to boil it, it would be overcooked on the outside and raw in the centre.”

“Nuu, I could cut it with my Wind Cutter…”

“No, we’ll eat these first,” I shook two of the crab legs at him, seriously, the thinnest bit was thicker than my arm. “Come now, there’s plenty of meat, so let’s go.”

“Nuu…”

The others, apart from Sui who was bouncing around chirping ‘crabby~ crabby~’, were also a little dissatisfied, but my word was final. So there.

“Ahem, we’ll be taking our leave now, do excuse us, Orson-san.”

“Oh, no, no. Thank you for subjugating the monsters, and allowing us the valuable opportunity of extracting the Mud Crab shell,”

[2a] “Make sure to freeze the meat as soon as possible or put it under time freeze, please. I heard that crab meat tends to spoil easily, maybe that’s why nobody eats it.”

“Is that so? I shall certainly do as you say. Who knows, perhaps we could even sell the meat of Berserker Mud Crabs as well!”

“Humph, you had better not ruin the Mud Crab meat,” Fer snarled.

“Ahem, ah, indeed. We shall have all hands on deck to work on the crab right away. Call a wizard in for Ice Magic! We’ll have the meat ready for you by tomorrow. For the others, please come back in three days’ time.”

“Sure, I’ll see you tomorrow,” with a final wave, I led my party out of the Adventurer’s Guild towards our rented abode.

Time to cook the crab! I can’t wait!

Warehouse employee chat:

Employee A: H-hei, just how big is that Adventurer’s [Item Box]?

Employee B: I know right? He brought out a Kelpie and a Tyrant Black Alligator after this huge Mud Crab

Employee C: Shhh! Idiot, we mustn’t ever talk behind an S Ranker!!

Employee A: That may be true, but do we really have to be that cautious?

Employee D: The person in question doesn’t look strong, but he has a Fenrir and an Ancient Dragon behind him, so…

Employee A, B: Gulp…

Mukouda: I can hear you guys, you know…

[Gumihou: …Eguchi-san, I’m not sure but… have you ever had mud crabs before?]

[1] The gang took who whole crab away, which is…??? Followed by 100 words of persuasion to make Mukouda sell them the crab the familiars going we wanna eat it~~

Can’t you just let the Guild crack it open and remove the meat for you?

[2] Change the ending, it’s about 300 words of ‘yaay crab~~’ and them planning to go the woods to boil the crab in a Water Ball any way. Have Mukouda forgo this method via cooking logic in [2a]

There are many popular ways to cook crab, boiling, steaming and baking are said to be best for retaining the flavor and juiciness of the meat (never had baked crab so I can’t attest, I have also never eaten crab meat cooked out of its shell [apart from fried rice] so I have no idea what the condition of a shell-less baked crab dish could be)

    1. Gumihou

The reason why we cook crab in its shell is because the meat is too difficult to remove from its shell. However, it is possible to remove crab meat before cooking it. Although I imagine that the Guild may lose about 10% to 15% of meat since they aren’t experienced. Even so, that’s still over 1000kg of crab meat if we go by weight alone. Most mud or swamp crabs yield close to 40% in meat.

There was really no reason not to let the Guild take the meat out first if they were going to boil the whole crab for over an hour before throwing the legs away…

Hm, so only the legs? I am not familiar with seafood, so I can’t judge if it’s right or wrong, though it feels a bit weird for Fer to give up even if temporarily on the crab’s main body, even with Mukoda’s persuasion.
Thanks for the chapter! Awesome translation! May God bless you!

    1. Gumihou

      Persuasion? More like ‘threat’

  3. RemAishiteru!

Thanks for the TL! Lets see how that crab will taste…

  4. Otaku Hikikomori

    Thanks for the treat.

  5. Marylander

Crab meat is gell before it’s cooked, so one would need to take the whole crab/parts of the crab in order to cook it.

Gumihou, please edit the original chapter properly. It does make more sense 🙃
