Haahh… I’m exhausted…

So many things happened…

As I was trudging my way out of the warehouse, a thought struck me and I turned around to ask, “By the way, what happened to Elland-san?”

Surely, he would be most reluctant to be parted from all these Leviathan materials? Not to mention, today’s discussion went on pretty smoothly despite it being me vs a group of important people.

“That fellow… I sent him to rest today. I figured that it would be too troublesome to have him around,” Bram-san said with a rather grim expression on his face.

I could not agree more, it was a wise decision indeed.

“He was under Moira’s supervision and was given strict orders to not leave the inn. However, he attempted to escape a couple of times…”

“That’s what I heard too,” said Willem-san.

Elland-san, aren’t you being too…

“Later, we tied him up and threw him back into his room. He is now being watched by Moira and 5 other high-ranking Adventurers,” Bram-san looked like he had accidentally bitten into a bitter insect, but was too polite to spit it out.

“Ooff, goodness,” I said, not knowing what else to say to this bit of information. No matter what, I have to admit that he was a very stubborn and determined person.

For him to be so amazingly relentless, it had to be some kind of talent.

Meanwhile, my familiars were lounging around in a corner all by themselves. Aside from the time when they protested against me giving away Leviathan meat as tribute, they had not gotten involved in the discussion at all.

On the way back, everyone was cheerfully talking about what they wanted for dinner. I was the only one who was exhausted by the whole ordeal.

The next day.

Our party set out to the city for a certain purpose.

“May Kishar-sama’s blessings be upon you,” said the priest with hands folded on his chest.

“May Kishar-sama’s blessings be upon you!” behind him, a group of nuns placed their hands on their chests and said the same thing.

I forced a smile. I already have Kishar’s blessings. Though it was not something that I could say to them.

Still, I went through the motions, repeating the blessing to them. The plan was to quickly hand over the donation money and quickly escaping the Church of the Earth Goddess Kishar before they could rope me into looking at more orphans or something.

The priest I spoke to had said, “We do get support from the government and donations from the nobility, it takes a lot to feed the children.”

“Well, I guess it’s understandable since there are so many children… speaking of which, um, are those water stains on the ceiling?”

The priest sighed and said, “Yes, although it is shameful to look at, we prioritise the children’s health and nutrition. The best thing we could do for the children is to help them grow up healthy and well.”

I am in awe of his kind-heartedness and, inspired by his words, left 10 platinum coins for the church.

“Right, let’s go to the next church.”

Umu, it must be Ninril-sama’s church.”

“Ooops, wrong! The next church we’re going to is the Church of the Water Goddess, Ruka-sama~”

Nanu?! Why are you not going to Ninril-sama’s church immediately?!”

“Relax, the church won’t run away, so let’s visit the churches in the most efficient way.”

Fer was really proud of being Ninril-sama’s disciple and would talk about her on and on if I were to let him. Speaking of which, this habit of his was similar to that noisy goddess.

“I already told you this before we left the house. Why can’t you remember this kind of basic detail?”

We had this argument many times already and I was just going through the motions at this point. No matter what, I was going to stick with the route I had decided after consulting with the Guild.

Now that we have received so much money from the Leviathan’s materials, it is only right that we give back a little by donating some of the windfall to various churches and orphanages. Still, there were a lot of churches here. As expected of the Royal Capital with its much higher population density.

Apparently, the Royal Capital orphanage takes in orphans from all over the country, especially from places where there are no proper facilities. Some of the orphans here were children whose parents could not care for them for various reasons.

I’m sure that sending them to a decent orphanage was a final act of parental love. Which was probably why the orphanages were always full.

Speaking of which, there were 5 Goddess of the Earth churches in the Royal Capital, alone. I was now visiting the second-largest Earth Goddess church with the largest orphanage attached. Still, it was quite a shock to see so many children there.

I’m glad they are being looked after by such kind people.

While I was busy thinking about various things, we reached the Church of the Water Goddess.

“So, this is Ruka-sama’s church,” [1] I said to myself as I walked up the steps to the side door. There is no way I’m going to walk up the front door with my familiars in tow for everyone to gawk at.

[1] After convincing my familiars to stay outside, I entered the church with Sui in my bag. There’s being low-key and there’s being stupid about my own safety. Not that I expect the priests of Ruka-sama’s church to be anything but professional and kind, however, I still remember how horrible the Church of Rubanov’s people were.

……….

…..

“Phew, I guess we’re done for today at least,” I said as I looked at the map and the list of churches I had checked off. “Hmm, we have only visited a little over half of the churches here. Why do they need to have so many churches anyway?”

In fact, the main issue was not logistics, but too many of the church people wanted to make small talk with me, show me around the church, introduce me to the children etc etc which all added to the time spent on each stop.

All I wanted todo was donate a little money so that the less fortunate could lead slightly better lives, not stand around and be complimented for spending money earned by my familiars. By the way, I gave out an average of 500 gold coins per church after taking into account the larger church population and crowded orphanages. Well, this was a great city after all, and with great cities comes a much larger population.

“Let’s continue this tomorrow,” I said.

After all, we can’t leave the Royal Capital yet since Willem-san had to get through some miscellaneous work that had been pushed back due to the Great Leviathan Dismantling Project. It would take about a week before he could leave the Royal Capital. While I could technically leave this place without him, I really don’t want to do that.

Especially after Willem-san grumbled something about, “I can’t leave my position in Carelina empty for too long…”

If that wasn’t a hint, I don’t know what it was.

However, I would like to point out that if it wasn’t for GG Airways, his position at Careline would be empty for at least a couple of weeks longer. That was what I would like to say, but he already looked too disgruntled and miserable, so I kept my peace.

I should also not point out how his hair was thinning just on the edges either…

In short, that is why we are stuck at the Royal Capital for another week. Aside from my charity work, I have promised to meet with the [Iron Will] party and celebrate their promotion to B Rank properly. However, aside from that, I was pretty free.

Since I did not have to rush, let’s visit the rest of the churches tomorrow.

“Today’s final stop is Fer’s much-awaited Church of the Goddess of Wind, Ninril-sama.”

Phun, finally! I’m tired of waiting.”

“It can’t be helped since Ninril-sama’s church is at the edges of the city. It makes no logistic sense to visit her place first.”

“Oh, I almost forgot that Fer is a disciple of the Goddess of Wind,” said Grandpa Gon.

““Eh, whatever, let’s just get through this quickly. I’m hungry!””

“”Sui is hungry too~~ Hurry home~~ Hurry home~~””

I want to hurry home too, but it’s best not to be too upfront about things like this, you two…

[Gumihou: Hmm, redid some things~]

[1] Give some details that match up with Mukouda’s paranoia about being in the limelight.

    THANKS!

That fearfulness, that awkwardness when faced with recognition, that’s the good parts of Mukoda. He knows he’s not working (kind off) for that mountain of money he has in his inventory, it’s the meat hunting monster murder pet party. It might be a trait created by growing up in a decent society, a defense against arrogance and pride.
Thanks for the foodie chapter! Awesome translation! May God bless you!

Asian culture tends to breed introverted tendencies (沉默是金). There are some that “rebel” against the norm and adopt the extroverted dominant values of today’s capitalist society (silence is consent). I’m more partial to the former due to personal bias but I don’t think there is anything wrong with the latter. From what I know of Japanese society, it has its ups and downs as with all societies.

Mukuoda probably should hire someone in the capital to take care of donating to the churches for him. He needs to hire more slaves. Although I guess that’d feel less sincere but at least it’d save him time and the embarrassing thank you’s.

I do think Mukuoda needs to invest his money into better things. He needs to set up some animal/monster farms and fruit farms.

Between introverts and extroverts, balance is best, IMO. Moral integrity is the more important part. The moment someone starts lying, especially for selfish reasons, his/her human value drops. That’s one thing I noticed many MCs have in common, otherwise they aren’t likeable. Well, evil oriented MCs are also fine, if their opposition is worse, then it’s a punishment type of story. Like in some revenge stories, or Overlord.
Just me rambling, don’t mind it 😀

    Thanks for the treat.
