Gumihou: Make the narrative more perky and ‘Makia-like’. Note [1] just for your reference. Also, from here on will use ‘Professor Medite’ instead of ‘Medite-sensei’ since the world was a Western-style Fantasy. There’s really no point in using Japanese honorifics unless the three are speaking among themselves or for Japan-related flashbacks.

Change ‘Tooru’ to ‘Thor’ as well because ‘Thor’ is the actual name of a Western god. Not sure about ‘Makia’ though. Will keep the current spelling.

It’s Makia.

This is what happened after Ulysses and Percelis entered that Remnant Magic Space.

Anyway, [1] after the two of them stepped through the enlarged entrance, Thor [1] did something to the Cube and it acted like a stopper as it clung to the entrance of the Remnant Magic Space like a clamp. The Cube pushed itself into the entrance and presumably through the entirety of the space. Then, several monitor-like devices appeared out of the thin air, reporting its analysis of the space. I watched Thor gave orders to Grimind and caught the moment he made a face.

“Hm, what in incredibly solid space.”

“Solid? Space can be solid and… not solid?”

“That’s right, the more powerful the space, the more solid it becomes.”

[1] He said that as though it made sense, but I don’t really get it.

When I tried to peer at one of the monitors, all I saw were strings of gibberish, and what looked kind of like programming things? I had no idea what he was doing or what was going on.

As for Professor Medite, he continued to puff on his pipe as he stared at me. Was he studying me?

“Professor Medite, surely it’s about time for you to go home?” said Thor as he fiddled with a monitor.

Professor Medite looked particularly shady as he said, “How cold…”

“In any case, the final meeting of the Four Nations Conference is this afternoon, isn’t it? Don’t you think you need some rest before the meeting?”

“Fufun, I don’t need much sleep to begin with. Ah, my wife is the same, she is the type who could stay up all night and still be quite fresh the next day. Not to mention, with such an interesting situation at hand, it would be strange if I could close my eyes at all.”

“Well, I’m sleepy…” I said a little sullenly.

“Lady Makia had already fallen asleep once already, hadn’t you?”

“… …”

In fact, Yuri, Percelis and I had all fallen into deep ‘sleep’ that was more tiring than actually staying awake all night. It was a sleep filled with past memories and restless emotions. There was barely any rest at all.

“I went to sleep at a strange time, which makes me even more sleepy…” [1]

“But why are you sleepy at all? I’m the one who should be sleepy?”

“It can’t be helped, I was pulled into Yuri’s dream and… well, I can say that it is anything but restful.” [1]

Thor yawned. He had one eye open, keeping watch on the various monitors as he muttered, “I think you were pulled into His Highness ‘s dream through this Magic Circuit thing…”

“Just what is this Magic Circuit? I keep hearing about it, it’s not something dangerous, is it?”

“Fufu~ I wonder~ only the people from Fresir knew the actual details of this technology. But, I did hear that it is a circuit that connects sources of magic powers. As Demon King Class level people are great powerhouses on their own, it is not surprising for the circuit to connect itself you. Moreover, it was invented by Princess Shatma and General Kanon, so there’s a possibility that it is a creation that was based on some super ancient technology.”

“… …”

It felt like it had been a long time since I recalled those two faces.

Fresir’s Princess Shatma and General Kanon.

We haven’t heard anything about these two important people ever since the Holy Festival. If nothing else, them being Demon King Class Level beings had to be significant.

Now that I’m thinking about it, the image between the Hero in Yuri’s dream and General Kanon finally overlaps in my mind’s eye.

“Speaking of which, have you ever wondered which god you were?”

“… …”

Lord Medite’s sudden question made me tilt my head inquisitively.

“To some extent,” was Thor’s quick answer. [2]

As for myself, I tried not to think about it at all.

“Speaking of which, Surely Lord Medite has more information about this than us?”

“Hmm… it was all based on guesses and hypotheses. The Holy Nation should have more comprehensive information that allows them to make a better conjecture.”

“… …”

Lord Medite grinned as he let out a long puff of smoke.

A faint hint of bitter tobacco suspended in the air.

Thor grimaced at the smell and continued, “If we look at the information we have, Ulysses must be the God of Spirits, Para Utis, and Percelis is the Goddess of Earth and Fertility, Para Demetris. I believe I should be the God of Time and Space, Para Chrondor. As for Makia, I’m not sure. Her name could be derived from ‘Maydea’, which brings to mind Para Magrivia, the Goddess of War and Destruction… but I don’t really get the impression of her being the Goddess of War, although it would certainly explain some of her destructive behaviour.

[1] “Wow… you really gave it a lot of thought, huh?” I said.

[2] “Naturally, I’m sure Ulysses also thought about it as well.”

Seeing me looking dumbfounded, Lord Medita suddenly burst out laughing as he slapped his knee with mirth.

“Indeed, it certainly is hard to tell who Young Lady Makia used to be. Thor and His Highness’s magic are directly connected to the ancient gods, but in truth, Young Lady Makia’s command magic could be interpreted in a number of ways.”

“There is also her blood magic. Considering how she uses her own blood to manipulate things, she could also be regarded as the Goddess of Life. If we consider the destruction she had wrought, she could also be the Goddess of Disaster.”

“That’s true. Thus far, she is closest to the last one.”

“…This is all kind of complicated…” I muttered.

The guys are getting more and more excited as they come up with different kinds of theories. In fact, I really like this kind of atmosphere. [1] There’s a reason why I started up that Club on Earth after all.

“General Kanon… or, the Hero as you all know him. I’m pretty sure he’s the ‘Collector’, the collector of souls and bodies. In short, the God of Souls, Death and Memory, Para Hadefis. That only left Princess Shatma and Eska…”

“You say that, but what are your guesses, Lord Medite?”

“As you know, the Medite clan have limited recorded information in our hands. Even so, we can still make some educated guesses based on what little information we have. I think it’s more fun to guess than to know anyway… as for what I think, I am almost sure that Eska is Para Tritania?”

“What makes you think so?”

“According to the founding myth, Para Demetris and Para Tritania are brother and sister. Together, they represent the sky, sea and earth.”

“I see, I wonder if past connections influence future relationships…” Thor nodded as he considered Lord Medite’s answer.

Personally, I was a little lost.

“The best judgement would be from the Sacred Treasure possessed by each god.”

“Sacred Treasure?” Thor asked.

“Ah, come to think of it, I saw a few different kinds of Sacred Treasures in Yuri’s dream. I think they were all kept by the Holy Nation. The White Sage was given the Spirit King’s Scepter.”

Finally, I was able to contribute positively to the dialogue. I was even a little proud of myself!

Lord Medite nodded, and one corner of his mouth lifted meaningfully. It was a little strange to be having this kind of theological discussion while perched on some rocks by the beach.

“Indeed, Sacred Treasures are actually super weapons belonging to each of the ancient goods. It is believed that there were as many Sacred Treasures as there were gods in this world and that these Sacred Treasures are closely connected to the successive generations of Demon Lord classes. “

“… …”

Thor went quiet for a moment as he frowned.

“The Authority of the Space-Time King…”

It was the name of the black sword he had once wielded.

Lord Medite looked gratified.

“That’s Krondor’s Sacred Treasure, isn’t it?”

“That… 2000 years ago, back when I wanted to build a nation for demons, I found it frozen in ice on top of a snowy mountain. Back then, it was referred to as the Divine Sword hidden within Everlasting Ice…”

“And so, you pulled it out?”

“Well, of course. I felt a… kinship with the sword. I don’t know what happened to it after I was defeated by the Hero…”

Thor’s voice was low as he talked about the sword as though it was an old friend. There was also a faint sense of humiliation as he remembered his past defeat. Even so, his hands never stopped moving as he continued to absently study the Residual Magic Space.

I have some memories of the black sword too. I remember it being a very troublesome thing. Instead of ‘cutting’, it was more accurate to say that the sword tended to ‘bite’, a very typical side effect when it came to Spatial Magic.

“Speaking of which, I’m done with the analysis of this space. Grimind, be sure to remember this configuration. I shall use it as a reference for future models.”

“Yes, Lord Black Demon King,” said Grimind with a bow and a rather nasty-looking smile.

“That guy Yuri [3], I wonder what he plans to do with this space?” [2] Thor muttered.

“What are you trying to say?”

“I’m wondering whether he intends to have this space destroyed or not.”

“… …”

He glanced at the glowing square that marked the entrance to the Magic Space before looking at me. I stared at the incomprehensible symbols on the monitor and said, “Whether the space ought to be destroyed or not, let’s leave it up to Yuri to decide.”

“That said, I believe we should look at the other Residual Magic Spaces nearby and analyze them,” said Lord Medite. “If we could properly analyse these spaces around the Church and the Research Institute, I’m sure these spaces could potentially become valuable weapons for Ruskia.”

“Weaponise them? I guess you could weaponise spaces depending on how it is used,” [1] I said, having been the victim of weapons created by space many times in the past.

“That’s one way. Think about it, these incredible spaces must have been created at great risk and cost. The magic needed to maintain these spaces alone is staggering. In short, if we could harvest the materials and energy from these spaces…” Thor muttered.

I have no idea what he was talking about. What’s all that got to do with weaponising spaces, anyway?

However, Lord Medie was laughing on the side, “Hahaha, well, if it’s Thor, I’m sure he would come up with a way to do it. Something that no researcher or magic user from the Holy Nation could do.”

“Well, that’s because they are all White Magic practitioners…”

“The Residual Magic Spaces here had been around for a long while and were most likely very high quality. If we could revert them back to energy sources, they would become incredibly valuable magic resources for the Kingdom of Ruskia. I’m sure you will be greatly rewarded!!”

Lord Medite’s eyes sparkled as though this was incredible news. [1] Well, his eyes also sparkled the same way when Thor and I accidentally made that poisonous sludge…

“Oh, they’re back.”

Indeed, at that moment, Ulysses and Percelis stepped out of the square doorway of light.

Both of their eyes were reddened with emotion. Something must have happened within that Magic Space, something emotionally impactful.

Well, this was the place where Yuri was supposed to meet with his son. Considering how time and space magic work, it would not be impossible for them to meet with a phantom figure of their little son.

“So…Gods…”

While Thor worked to break down and destroy the Residual Magic Space at Ulysses’s request, I thought back to our theological discussion.

Who are we?

Who were we?

It looked like Thor and Ulysses had some idea of what they had been. After all, both of them had used to own sacred treasures that were used by their past life counterparts. As for myself… I had nothing like that.

Perhaps, that was why the myth of the Crimson Witch was closer to me than whatever goddess that existed in the past.

As for that guy. He must know.

Yes, if nothing else, he had to know.

[Gumihou: Made the creative choice of using ‘Thor’ so long as they refer to the one who was born in Maydea.]

[1] Makia-like dialogue

[2] Thor-like dialogue

[3] ユリの奴 could be interpreted as Yuri’s servant, Yuri’s friend, or Yuri’s fellow, but it’s unclear what the connotation behind this exact type of weird terminology. It could also be ‘That Yuri’s, which, if this is spoken by Thor (again, no dialogue tags) the only clue was the final ‘だぞ’ at the end of the sentence that indicated ‘rough talk’. If Thor is the one talking, ‘That guy Yuri’ also makes sense.
