Fanfiction 020 – Crossover – Single Aristocrat Enjoys a Different World

Umu, this looks like a good spot.”

“You’re right, there’s a nice lake and everything. This is great,” I said as I looked at the sparkling lake bracketed in by a lovely view. Several parrot-like birds flew over the lake, giving it an extra feeling of serenity. “I don’t mind waiting here…”

As you may have guessed, our party was on yet another hunting trip at some random dungeon. As for which dungeon… that’s not really important now, is it?

Anyway, this dungeon floor was surprisingly pleasant, with very beautiful views and gorgeous lakes. There were a lot of boars, birds and small game around, which did not interest my familiars much. They all wanted to hunt bigger game, but I refused to leave this floor without properly enjoying the idyllic atmosphere first.

Therefore, on the pretence of ‘preparing food’, I sent the Gluttonous Quartet away to enjoy the scenery.

First, a deck chair. Well, more like, my favourite leather rocking chair which was kind of expensive but who cares, right?!

Also, a table for snacks, coffee… let’s go for the good quality drip coffee and some snacks to go with the coffee-

“Tch.”

“!!?”

I jumped, shocked by the sudden sound.

My special Sui-made Mithril Spear materialised in my hand as I whirled around to face the enemy-

“Hey, sorry for startling you.”

A steady, refined voice said.

I instinctively tightened my grip on the spear. There was no trace of hostility in that person’s voice, but for some reason, I suddenly felt really angry…

“Who are you?”

“I’m… known as Zilk Louren…”

The man had dark blue hair and a refined disposition. However, what he said next caught my attention most.

“However, the name Dokuraba Toshinori may be more familiar to you.”

“…eh?” I blinked at the clearly not Japanese person before me. “Ehhhh??!!”

“So, you’re Japanese?”

“Well, I was… in my past life,” said Dokuraba, he told me I could call him Dokuraba.

“Oh, so we’re talking about past lives now?” I knew my voice sounded a little too high-pitched, but how was I supposed to react to this kind of revelation?

“If it makes you uncomfortable…”

“No, no, why should it? Anyway, I’m not a reincarnator or transmigrator or anything, I was, uh, summoned into this world.”

Dokuraba immediately looked interested. “Is that why you have drip coffee with you? Was it something you had on your person when you were summoned?”

I looked down at my coffee, then back up at the annoyingly handsome guy, for some reason, veins popped up on my forehead.

“Maybe,” I said grudgingly.

“I understand if you’re reluctant to share information, we’re basically strangers after all. Why don’t I share something about myself first? Let’s see, I died alone back in Japan and was reincarnated here as an infant. My hobby is cooking and collecting artefacts, I am also a licence magic toolmaker.”

For some reason, I got the feeling that I was facing some kind of professional salesman…

“Uh-huh.”

“… You are suspicious of me, aren’t you?” said Dokuraba.

“What? No, no, hahaha, why would you say so?”

I was totally suspicious of this guy, but it would be rude to say so in his face. Quick, let’s change the subject. “Wait, did you say that you’re a magic tool maker?” I was suddenly interested. “What kind of tools have you made?”

“Well, some of the notable things I have made include refrigerators, coffee grinders, smokers and panini makers…”

Basically, things that make modern life more convenient,” I concluded.

“You got me,” he said with a chuckle.

“… …”

“… Fine, I have an ulterior motive. Sell me that drip coffee. I’ll buy anything else you have from back earth as well.”

The words were said in a controlled voice, but I could sense the mania behind them.

“… I’m sorry, but-”

Dokuraba smiled, but it was a pained, polite service smile in the face of great disappointment. “I’m sorry, Mukouda-san. It was discourteous of me. I, of all people, should understand just how precious one’s connection to the past is. Please ignore my previous insistence. I have no right-”

For some reason, hearing his apology made me feel worse. Here was someone missing the joys of their previous life. If I did not have a connection with earthly goods through [Net Super]… I wonder, just what kind of life would I have led?

“… I have rice-”

“GIMMEE!!!”

If I had any doubts about this person Japanese, it was all dispelled at that moment. Luckily for this fellow, I always keep a few earthenware pots of cooked rice in my [Item Box]. Otherwise… I may have to witness a man trying to eat raw rice or something.

“Oh my god, what is that- oh kami-sama, Buddha and Jesus, it’s rice! It’s… it’s Japanese rice! Oh great God Hitorigami! Thank you for the food, I, ah!”

The man grabbed a spoon from his shoulder bag and shovelled a large spoonful of rice into his mouth. As I watched, tears gushed out of his eyes in twin rivers of happiness.

“… …”

As the man savoured his first mouthful of rice in… goodness knows how long, I took out a bottle of soy sauce, an egg and a bowl. “Hey, want this-”

“A TKG!! How long has it been since I last had TKG!!! And, and is that soy sauce!??! Oh, Hitorigami! It’s soy sauce!!! It’s soy sauce!!”

The man cracked the egg directly into the pot of rice and poured a dash of soy sauce on it. If anything, he looked even happier than before.

I wondered if I should let him know I have Natto too…

“H-how are you so well prepared? The egg is so fresh and… what kind of artefact did you use to store these goods?”

Too many questions. Questions I don’t want to answer. “… Want some Natto?”

Fresh tears poured out of Dokuraba’s eyes.

Even though I was giving this fellow food, it still felt like I was bullying him somehow. Anyway, I gave him a couple of packets of Natto and served him some drip coffee, mostly because I knew he would appreciate it.

Seeing a fellow Japanese person literally in tears at the sight of rice moved me a lot. Also, didn’t he say he was a magic toolmaker? I guess I could ask for a refrigerator and other things he made in exchange for some consumables.

I have a feeling we would get along great with each other.

[Gumihou: Hahahaha… you really think so?]
