Alternate Reality Mukouda (Part 5)
The Mukoudas
The sensation was something that had been seared into my mind.
It had been at least two years since, and I thought I had long since forgotten it, but it looked like it had only been thrown deep in the depths of my mind…
What was the memory you asked?
Well, it was the day I first arrived in this world. The day I was pulled into this ‘other world’ as an ‘extra’ of all things.
The moment I got here, my immediate instinct was to get the hell out of that place. There were just too many inconsistencies and, I guess none of you are interested in rehashing that, huh?
Anyway, back to the matter at hand.
I experienced that pulling and phasing sensation again. When it was all over, I found myself in a stone room lit with some kind of glowing crystals. With me were three other people.
Seriously?
Again?
“Huh?”
“Um…”
“Fuck!”
On one hand, I was happy not to be alone. On the other hand… this was not the first time I got sucked into another world with three other people. I privately called up my [Item Box] and was reassured to feel that I could still access it.
At least I was not sent to another place with nothing much more than the clothes on my back.
Ugh…
It had taken me months of hard work and several close calls to get myself properly settled into something resembling a decent life. Hopefully, I can get back…
“Hey, uh, what is this place?” a confused voice said.
For some reason, that person sounded really familiar…
“Looks like some kind of pocket dimension,” a tired voice muttered. “I swear, the gods have nothing better to do in their free time…”
“Tch, that’s it. I’m withholding offerings for at least two months this time. Fuck this nonsense.”
The dialogue did not seem to make sense. Gods? Offering? I mean, I did make some offerings to the local churches and temples, mostly out of habit and hope for a bit of luck in life.
“What’s going on?” I said and had to blink.
It was the first time I had a good look at these people’s faces.
Basically, there were three more Mukouda in front of me.
One of them was dressed in the very nostalgic business suit of Japan’s white collar company, the second looked a little scruffy with a sword at his hip, and the third looked the most normal to me. Normal in the isekai sense with drawstring trousers, leather shoes and a perpetually tired/annoyed look on his face.
I pointed at them, “Gah!”
“Wh-what…”
“The fuck-”
And horrifyingly enough, “I just knew this was coming…”
Adventurer Mukouda’s eyes immediately sharpened as he glared at the Mukouda who looked like he had the most experience among us. He even did the hand-over-the-hilt-of-his-sword move that was usually associated with brutish type, “What do you mean by that?”
Tired Mukoud sighed again and said, “We, that is, my party and I had been sucked into random other worlds recently. I figured that I would come across other world me sooner or later.”
“Excuse me,” a small voice said from the side. It was Salaryman Mukouda, “Um, could someone please explain what’s going on?”
“Oh, how unexpected. We have an uninitiated one,” said Tired Mukouda.
I looked at Salaryman Mukouda sympathetically for a moment, “Hello, I’m Mukouda Tsuyoshi. I supposed you’re Mukouda as well?”
“Er, uh, yes?”
“As, that person mentioned,” I nodded at Tired Mukouda. “It is highly possible that we are in some kind of different dimension. I, too, was transmigrated into a different world.”
“Transmigration? Isn’t that just something out of a novel?” there was a thread of hysteria in Salaryman Mukouda’s voice.
I exchanged a look with the other isekaid Mukoudas.
“Well, not from our experience.”
“I got transmigrated into the middle of a warfield,” Adventurer Mukouda said. “Well, not exactly, but damned if I ever allow myself to be helpless again.”
“I arrived in a country on the verge of war,” said Tired Mukouda. “I managed to get out just in time, but then… well, all kinds of things happened.”
“You got out?”
“Yeah? Got out the next day.”
“How?” Adventurer Mukouda had this wild look in his eyes.
“Uh, I paid?”
“Wait, how much was the ride out?”
“I can’t remember, a couple of gold I think?”
“Wait, how much did those shitty people give you?”
“Uh, 10 gold?”
“… …”
“… …”
When Adventurer Mukouda glared at me, I put up my hands automatically. “I got 10 gold too.”
“… Those shitty stingy fuckers only gave me 10 silvers…”
“Woah,”
“That’s…”
“Excuse me,” Salaryman Mukouda put up his hand nervously, “but what are you talking about?”
“Nothing important,” Adventurer Mukouda sighed.
“Woah, quite the for want of a nail situation,” I muttered.
“What about you?” Tired Mukouda asked. “You look like a merchant.”
“Oh, uh, what gave it away?” I laughed a little nervously.
Adventurer Mukouda and Tired Mukouda looked pointedly at my robes. Ah, that’s right.
“I did pretty well,” I said. “I sell condiments and things. Gathered a small capital selling salt and pepper, and a bit of sugar blocks too. It was too risky to stay in the salt business so I got myself a couple of farms and started bottling jams and stuff. So, things are going pretty okay.”
Salaryman Mukouda looked confused, “Salt? How did you get salt?”
“Ah, well, see. When I was transmigrated into that world, I got something called [Net Super] as a special skill. Here, let me show you, [Status Window]!”
I proceeded to explain this special skill to a fascinated Salaryman Mukouda. It was not like I was bragging or anything, I’m sure the other two Mukouda also have similar skills…
For some reason, the two other isekaid Mukoudas looked confused.
“Um, do you two not have the [Net Super]?” I asked.
“We do…”
“Yup, it’s the one good thing in that shitty place…”
“[Status Window]! [Status Window]!” Salaryman Mukouda said a few times, but nothing happened. We all looked at him.
“Uh, that probably means you’ll get back to Earth,” I said comfortingly.
“It had better,” said Adventurer Mukouda grimly.
“Life’s difficult enough with [Net Super]. It would be unbearable without this special skill,” Tired Mukouda muttered.
Salaryman Mukouda looked a little envious and relieved at the same time. Well, I can’t blame him. None of us were really cut out for life in that other world. The only reason why I could tolerate it was thanks to [Net Super]. I’d probably die from rice and soy sauce withdrawal within a few days there.
“That said, I hope we get to go back soon,” I said. “I have a date in a couple of days.”
“WHAT?!”
