“First, we stop its movements.”

Grandpa Shimerai pulled out a fan. This one had the image of a collapsing ground on it.

I wonder what sort of effect it would give. Could it be some kind of earth element spell?

The fan was swung up high, and then brought down with great force.

[1] Thoom!

I felt the sound all the way down to my stomach. The Octo-Croc immediately stopped in its tracks.

“Eh? What happened? I didn’t see anything…”

As Ramis said, there were no visible indications of the spell, but a closer study showed that the beast appeared to be much shorter. [1] That was when I realised that all of its eight legs had sunk into the ground.

Was it a gravity-based spell? The beast looked like it was being pressed down by something.

“I’ve multiplied its body weight several times over. The rest is up to you.”

So it was gravity magic after all. At Grandpa Shimerai’s words, the vanguard charged.

Shui and the Principal immediately aimed for the four eyes, but the beast instinctively closed its eyes, deflecting the arrows.

Hevoy was attacking the joint of the monster’s left foreleg with his chained weapon, tearing out flesh and sending blood flying.

“Throw me at… other leg…”

[1] I stared at Pitee from my position on Ramis’s back in shock. What was that outrageous request?

Ramis was also looking at her doubtfully, [1] “You really want me to throw you?”

“Yes… do it…”

With that, Pitee closed herself inside her shields. Ramis immediately grabbed the clam-like thing, swung it high over her head, and hurled it towards the Octo-Croc’s right front leg.

Ramis’s aim was usually quite bad, but with such a huge target… [1] never mind, instead of the right leg, the Pitee was smashed into the creature’s left foreleg. The one that Hevoy had been attacking. The impact was so powerful that the leg was completely shattered.

[1] I suppose it all worked out well in the end.

“I- I got it!” Ramis cheered.

Well, you did hit a leg.

Just then, the beast’s right foreleg burst into flames.

Ora ora ora! Burn, damn you!!”

The Director of Scorching Sand had turned into a man-shaped inferno, unleashing a blur of punches and kicks against the massive limb like it was a sandbag.

So he really was skilled in martial arts. The flames were incredibly flashy. When coupled with the powerful kicks and punches, any man looking on would feel their blood race in their veins.

Two of the eight legs were now down, but the remaining six legs were enough to keep the creature standing.

It was really unsporting to beat down on something that could not fight back, but this was a life-or-death situation. Moreover, there was no telling how long Grandpa Shimerai’s spell would last, so we must press on.

“I must show Master my worth, too!”

The second right leg also caught fire due to Mishael’s Flaming Dragon Sword technique, which hacked into the leg again and again.

The supposedly tough hide was sliced open, revealing a nasty wound. With three legs down, the giant best buckled to its knees.

“This granny got to do her part too,” [1] Granny Yumite suddenly appeared behind the second left leg. She swung her cane-sword once—as far as I could tell. The only thing I saw was a single flash and the sound of a blade leaving its sheath. In the next blink, the blade had already been resheathed, so I could not be sure.

A single line appeared on the massive limb.

“The Iai Technique [2] really takes one out, can’t use it too many times,” said Granny Yumite as she turned around.

She tapped her hip once, and, behind her, a diagonal cut appeared on the massive leg. Blood gushed as the huge limb split apart and slid down.

With just a single swing, she had severed the colossal leg. As expected, this old couple were on a completely different level than the rest of us.

With half of its legs missing, the Octo-Croc could no longer support its own weight, and its massive body tipped forward and crashed onto the ground.

“At this rate, we won’t even get a turn,” [1] Director Bear observed.

“Right you are, Director,” Ramis chirped.

Both of them dashed forward. I came along for the ride on Ramis’s back as usual. As we neared the monster, Director Bear’s claws extended, surrounded by a dark, flame-like aura. He plunged his claws into the neck of the creature and dashed upwards, tearing into the creature from neck to spine.

Ramis had also leapt onto its back. She made for the area near its spine and clenched her fists. Then, she bent her knees, bringing her closer to the beast and bracing her feet. She touched the creature lightly with her fist once before drawing her arm back.

Then, with a powerful ‘Toh-yaahh!!!’

She drove her fist down.

The impact was so great that I felt it through my entire body. The Octo-Croc’s entire back caved in like a mortar bowl. Cracking sounds of bones could be heard as the spine broke.

“One more!”

Ramis’s next punch slammed through with such deadly strength that the beast’s massive body actually bounced from the impact. Her power had clearly grown beyond what it once was.

Toh! Hyah! Chaaah!

The monster had practically been broken in half, but Ramis did not stop raining blow after blow into it. I guess it made sense to make sure with such a huge creature, right?

“Bout time we get moving.”

Though he was behind us, Grandpa Shimerai’s voice reached us as though he were speaking right next to us. It must have been some kind of wind magic-related skill.

Others retreated from the still faintly flailing creature. Ramis remained still. She stared up at me.

“You want to do this?”

Oh, as expected of Ramis. She had figured out my intention without me having to say a word. She wanted to know if I wanted to use my special move.

Of course, there could only be one answer.

“Welcome”

If not now, then when?

“I really don’t want to make Hakkon do this, but—I will trust my partner!”

“Ye-es”

In the past, she had always done her best to avoid treating me like a weapon, but lately… Well, I feel like we have come to a better understanding with each other.

“Right, here we go!!”

She unstrapped me from her back, hefted me onto her shoulder, and hurled me straight upward.

My body soared higher and higher into the sky. Below me, I saw that Ramis was already retreating from the Octo-Croc’s back.

Once I reached sufficient altitude, gravity took hold, and I started to descend. I form changed into the Largest Vending Machine in Japan and even summoned a concrete slab foundation beneath me, adding to my weight and destructive power.

The Octo-Croc must have been freed from [1] Grandpa Shimerai’s spell, because it started to struggle in place. However, with half of its legs gone, it could only thrash helplessly in place.

The perfect victim as I plummeted directly onto its back.

The impact smashed into its spine, forcing its massive body into a grotesque arch.

Flesh burst, and bones cracked beneath me. Unlike last time, when I’d destroyed it from the inside, this time it was devastation from without.

Ramis’s earlier strikes had already torn open its hide—my blow punched straight through the monster, splitting its body clean in two.

When I reverted to my normal vending-machine form, the scene around me was a gorefest of organs, bones, and mangled flesh. Since I caused it, I’ll just quietly shut my eyes until it is absorbed by the dungeon.

Before long, the meat dissolved, leaving only bones. Same as last time.

This swift victory was only possible thanks to everyone’s efforts. Sorry for swooping in to take the finishing blow.

“Master Hakkon! What a magnificent blow!”

Mishael rushed over first, kneeling with one leg, bowing his head, then looking up with a dazzling smile. Looks like my stock rose even higher with him.

“Hakkon! Are you okay? Did you break anything?” Ramis appeared next to me, running her hands all over my body to check for damage.

“No pro-blem”

“Go-od”

“Whew, I was worried I threw you too high that time.”

Don’t worry, the meat cushion helped, and I’ve gotten a lot sturdier too.

Hopefully, this marks the end of the Ruler of the Netherworld’s meddling.

We still have to track down the escaped general Kayorings, and explore the Everlasting Floor. But for now—this victory is ours to celebrate.

No doubt tonight will turn into a festival. Time to start thinking about which drinks and snacks to prepare.

[Gumihou: Well, that was suitably dramatic]

[1] Adjusted details for dramatic purpose

[2] Iai Technique – Is a quick-draw sword technique, focused on drawing the sword from its scabbard, cutting and resheathing in one fluid motion.
