Dungeon Meat Festival, Day 2.

The streets were as full as before and filled with the aromas of delicious cooking meat.

““Today, I shall eat and eat and eat even more,””

““Ossu!! Yeahhh!!!””

““Sui will eat lots too~~!””

“… …” it’s nice to see you guys bringing your A-game to the festival, but, uh, I’m kind of… a little afraid…

Just what is your definition of ‘a lot’? [5]

“Hey, didn’t you eat a lot yesterday?”

““Yesterday was yesterday. Today is just beginning,”

““That’s right! That’s right! There are still loads of stalls we haven’t visit!””

““Meat~ meat~”” [5]

““Right, we shall start the day with skewered meats. Dora, Sui, follow me!””

““Oraa! Meat!””

““Meat~!””

[6] Hey… isn’t this your battle cry…

The first stall my familiars rushed to was a Dungeon Beef Skewer stall. The old man at the stall did not look too surprised to see three monster creatures salivating over his [1] spicy grilled skewers.

““Oi, I want 10 of those,””

““5 for me!””

““Sui wants 20~~””

““Sui, take 10 first. We have many stalls to visit,”” [7] Fer said with all the authority of a general leading his troops.

““Okay~ Sui will have 10~””

“Yes, yes, ahem, 26 skewers, please,” naturally, I only need 1.

“Order up!”

After paying, we moved to a free space and I proceeded to remove the skewers for my familiar as per usual. [5]

““Hmm, I guess it’s decent,””

““The spiciness enhances my appetite, now I want moar!!!””

“Aren’t you guys eating too quickly?”

““You’re too slow. Hurry up, we have other stalls to visit,””

“There’s quite a lot of meat on this, I can’t just swallow or dissolve the meat like you guys,” I protested.

However, that only encouraged them to hurry me on. Even Sui was bouncing anxiously on the side.

I like to take my time when eating, taking into consideration the herbs and spices used as well as the heat used to grill meat. However, I can’t fully enjoy my food…

““Are you done, yet?””

““Are you done??!””

““Meat~””

“Fine,” I sighed. “Let’s go.”

““Let’s go to this stall next,””

“Yes, yes,”

As we went around the dozens of food stalls, with me trailing after Fer and ordering food for them, we came across some familiar faces.

“Oh, hello. Look, it’s Maynard and Enzo.”

““Mu, those kids who came to learn cooking from you, [5]””

““Woah, there’s a long line! [5]”” Dora-chan muttered as he fluttered higher to get a better look. [5]

““Meat is yummy~~””

““Hmm, let’s try their food,”” Fer stepped past the long line straight to the stall. [5] The two smaller familiars followed him.

“Wait, stop!” I grabbed the two by their tails and ordered Sui to, “Stop! Sui! You stop too!”

[5] [9]

““Hey, why did you stop us?” grumbled Fer.

““Why, you ask? What have I told you about lines?”” I snapped back. ““…We must always follow social rules and line up…””

““Mu, such a hassle,””

““Well, if you think it’s a hassle,”” I thought harshly at him, ““we can just go to a different stall.””

““Nuu, I want offal now [5].””

““If you want offal, you will have to line up. If you don’t want to line up, we could go get something else.””

““Nu, we didn’t line up at the other stalls,””

““Well, did you see a line at the other stalls?””

““… no,””

““Well, there you go.””

““Fine, let’s line up,””

Somehow, I managed to push my familiars to line up properly. Ugh, people are staring at us now. Whatever, I’ll just utilize my special skill of pretending everything’s normal.

Nothing to see here, people.

[9] [6] The line was not that long, really.

“Next customer, please.”

“Eh? Master!”

“Hello, hello, I’m here to check out your stall,”

[4]

“We’re doing really great!”

“Yeah, it was a little lonely at first because people thought offal meat is dirty,”

“Then, a customer who likes to try new things came and ate some,”

“And starts yelling delicious! Delicious!”

“And suddenly, we have loads of customers!”

“Also, since we use ‘bad parts’ of meat, our tomato stew is only 4 iron coins and the skewer is only 3 iron coins.”

“Since it’s cheaper, people are okay to give it a try.”

[4]

“I’m glad for both of you!”

“Thank you~~!!”

Maynard and Enzo looked very energetic and competent. I hope they continue to do well.

“Ahem, I’ll have 3 servings of stews and 26 skewers, please.”

“Coming right up!”

““Hey, why so few skewers?””

“”Why only 3 stews?””

““We have to be considerate of other customers. If we buy too many, people behind us won’t be able to taste these later.””

““Nuu,””

““Also, they got the tomato stew recipe from me, I can make more for you guys later.””

““Fine,””

“Here you go, Master!”

As usual, I put everything away in my [Item Box] first before going somewhere else to remove the skewers from the skewered meat.

I’m pretty full already, so all I bought was a skewer for myself. [6] I want to know how good their ‘secret sauce’ is.

““Hmm, the stew is not as good as the one you made, but it’s not bad,””

““It’s pretty decent,””

““It’s good, but Sui wants more…””

Ahh, as expected.

Anyway, let’s try the skewers next.

Hmm, the sauce is clearly something salt-based. The herb used is something similar to lemongrass and tasted very refreshing and lingered in the mouth in a nice way. This flavour profile balanced out the slightly fatty offal meat. As expected of people aiming to be chefs, these boys know their stuff.

““It’s pretty decent,””

““Good! I hadn’t expected much, but it’s good!””

““Sui likes it~~””

Well, my gourmet gluttons have nothing but good words for it. [1] Looks like they have a shot at getting the top prize.

Naturally, as their teacher, I’d like for them to succeed too.

“Alright, let’s head to the next stall!””

““Yeah!!!””

““Meat, meat-~””

Hahhh…. my familiars are still pretty energetic…

[5]

In the end, we visited about 30 stalls. It was a meat, meat, meat day filled with meat, meat, meat… [5]

““I ate a lot today, let’s eat more tomorrow,””

““Yeahhh!! Meat!!””

““Munya munya… meat~~””

Even asleep, Sui’s dreaming of meat.

I guess tomorrow would be more of the same.

Oh well, it’s not like we get to enjoy meat, meat, meat festivals every day.

[1] Structural Change: Combine 2 paragraphs

[2] Structural Change: Combine 3 paragraphs

[3] Structural Change: Combine paragraph & dialogue

[4] Structural Change: Change passive sentence to dialogue

[5] Delete Repetitive or Pointless Information

[6] Additional Information for Aesthetic Purpose

[7] Add Dialogue Tag

[8] Creative Licence Taken – Adjusted to make dialogue appear more normal

[9] The Line Up scene was kind of odd?

Especially since Fer had already been drilled on the etiquette of lining up by Mukouda whenever they try to enter large cities. Deleted most of it since they’re irrelevant. Also deleted the ‘talk in telepathy, Fer!’ scene. Especially since he scolded Fer verbally to use telepathy out loud.

Hahaha, Sui was the one going “meat meat~” all the time, that’s quite adorable. Poor Mukoda got tired even though he didn’t cook, probably. And it looks like the orphans are doing well.
Thanks for the first chapter this week! Awesome translation! May God bless you!

Lol, the meat, meat, meat refrain was actually inspired by a page in the manga. I don’t think it was ever mentioned in the novel?

Anyway, I thought it’s a good refrain/battle cry for the gluttons.
