Chapter 396: Voluntary Social Service
Translated by Zzonkedd

This chapter is already less than 900 words when Gumi started.
The next day, I set out for town with the information that Isaac-san had given to me.
I informed Fer and the rest that I would not be leaving the city today, but they still stuck with me for some reason.
Sui was in my bag, sleeping as usual.
Well, it’s not like she could not sleep back at the house, but I still find myself worrying about her all alone in a big house by herself.
While we were walking down the streets, my familiars started acting up as usual.
“”Well, where are we going? Food stalls?”” asked Fer.
““Oh! That would be great! I like food stalls! Some meat sold by stalls is a bit lacking, but it becomes delicious when this guy adds special seasoning to it.””
What the… we’re not going to food stalls here. [6] You’d just complain about the lack of quality meat. [1] As for Dora-chan, why do you remember the oddest things?
“We’re not going to food stalls, we’re heading for the orphanage.”
“”Orphanage?””
“”Why are we going to such a place?””
“The thing is… [4] you know I came from a different world, right? I came here with nothing but the clothes on my back before meeting Fer and the rest of you. After that… well, I never had to worry about money. It’s all thanks to you guys… [5]”
[6] “”Yeah! We’re awesome!”” [6] “”Umu, you should remember this and feed us more.”” [4] “Yes, yes, you’re right. Anyway, I still have a lot of money even after buying a mansion in Carelina and the servants, I don’t see how else I could spend the money. You guys hunt most of the meat we eat and while I do buy stuff from Net Super, things there don’t cost a lot so I still have too much money left over.” [5]““Mu, is that so?””
“”Yeah, I’ve stopped counting after the money went past 100,000 gold. I honestly don’t know how much money I have now. We made a stupid amount of money just from selling dragon parts…”
[5a] [5a]“”So? Why are you telling us this?””
“”Well… if you could refrain from attacking the next dragon you see…””
“”Hey, if a dragon comes by our way, we’re taking it down!””
“”If you could just refrain yourself…””
“”No.””
“”Nope!”” [5]
“”Ugh, well, anyway we’re going off-topic here. What I’m trying to say is that I want to find ways to use the money. I want to spend my money constructively.””
“”Constructively?””
“”What’s that? Can’t you just buy more food?””
“”Food only costs so much, I want to contribute positively to society!””
“”Mu, you lost me there.””
“”Meh, I don’t really care so long as we get to eat delicious food.””
“”You guys… remember the time we spent with the children? We made their lives a little better by supporting them and the organisation that protects them. That’s what spending money constructively means.” [5b] There is a lot more to it, of course. I still felt like a hypocrite when giving money as a charity like this but at least the money is helping people rather than just being stuck growing like mould in my [Item Box].
In fact, I had been thinking of setting up ways to spend my money. Even now, I don’t feel like the money really belongs to me, but, I think the best thing to do is to support charities that help the less fortunate. [5]
“”Do what you like. Just make sure to keep feeding us good food,”” [7] sniffed Fer, who was clearly not interested in financial matters at all.
““Same. Good food and dungeons in every city! Woohoo! Yeah, you owe us that!””
Well, I guess that works as an ‘okay’ from two of my familiars. [5c]
“”Sui? What do you think?”
““Hmm, hmm… Sui thinks… it’s nice to eat nice things and pew pew monsters in dungeon~~”” [5c] [5c]
“”Aaahhh, Sui-tan is cute, but I guess I can’t expect you to understand how the money system works…””
“”Hey! If you’re going to donate money, donate to the church of the Great Goddess Ninril-sama!””
““Eh? Ah, yes, I supposed I could-””
“”Ninril-sama granted you a blessing, didn’t she? Then, you should show your gratitude by donating to her church and have a great statue built in her honour.””
“”Oi, oi, enough about that. We’re going to the orphanage first. There is more than 1 goddess and I had been giving them offerings each month.””
Not to mention, I would never donate money to a church just to build a great statue of the greedy Deplorable-sama.

[1] Structural Change: Combine 2 paragraphs [2] Structural Change: Combine 3 paragraphs [3] Structural Change: Combine paragraph & dialogue [4] Structural Change: Change passive sentence to dialogue [5] Delete Repetitive or Pointless Information… starting to delete pointless scenes now [a] Deleted extra scenes about how rich Mukouda is and how he got there, and how the money just increases. Like, rub it in, won’t you? [b] Sad life of an orphan [c] Deleted extra scenes of the familiars joking or talking seriously about money. Monsters would mostly be dismissive of matters like money, like, come on. [6] Additional Information for Aesthetic Purpose [7] Add Dialogue Tag [8] Creative Licence Taken – Gave Fer credit for mentioning the church first instead of Mukouda. Also, Fer is basically a devout believer, so he’d never imagine that his goddess was a Deplorable-sama.

Fer is a wind-element creature, so he would support Ninril when it comes to convincing Mukouda to do something.
.
If Mukouda wanted to help the orphans more, along with the associated orphanages in each area, it would be to have each of the Lambert company branches in different cities or villages hire some orphans on a rotating basis (different set of orphans each week as apprentices to first clean the area around the shop, clean each branch’s caravansary, and no matter their seniority MUST also personally go to the local public non-temple statues of Demiurgos-sama, Agni-sama, Hephaistos-sama, Kishar-sama, Ninril-sama, Ruka-sama, and Vaughn-sama to inspect and clean their statues. This gives employment to orphans and raises their positive reputation. Also, Lambert’s company branches get a few additional employees whose expenses are partially covered by Mukouda while Lambert’s regular employees are freed from the drudgery work. Lambert’s company gets some positive PR for the status maintenance and the deities get a chance for more worshippers since Mukouda will sponsor creation of a public non-temple location statue for each deity if such doesn’t already exist. And importantly, the employment rotation to a variety of orphans provides hope, some job experience, and exposure to the life situation at a merchant shop plus hopefully some piety points with the deities.
He has over a thousand years to dedicate his life to charity, I’m sure he’ll set up some sort of cohesive structure one day…
How much gold would he have to spend if he decides to commission the statue in the deplorable goddess’s current appearance? Is it actually cheaper if her roundness gives her fewer details to sculpt?
Thanks for the treat.
Funny how fer is always ninril this, ninril that, you should be grateful to ninril, and yet we never saw him making her any offering or even praying for her, he’s basically just a flatterer, I would like the mukoda to point that to him and maybe even tease him that ninril cares a lot more about mukoda than about fer
The gold he spends is from Fer’s hunting, we don’t know if he is actually praying to her or if she told him before not to make offerings, I doubt she would be happy receiving some dead animal xD he knows she wants Mukoda’s offerings so he nags him, it’s still a beast even if it’s legendary.
Fer dedicates his devotion to Ninril-sama. Which, I think is something a god needs to keep existing.
I think Fer has a way too highly overestimated impression of that deplorable-sama. Now then, I wonder what now interesting encounter will Mukoda and Co have at this orphanage.
Thanks for the chapter! Awesome translation! May God bless you!
They’re both greedy for good food, he wouldn’t see anything bad in her cravings xD
Yeah, but he has never met her in person, so it’s understandable.
