Chapter 577 – Idle Talk – Aftermath at the Royal Capital

“They finally left…”

“Like a passing storm…”

“I’m exhausted…”

“My soul felt wrung out…”

“We were so busy…”

“It’s tough on the old bones…”

The elders of the Royal Capital Adventurer’s Guild was more than happy to see the backs of Mukouda’s party.

“You know, we still have a little more work to do…”

“DON’T REMIND US!!”

Everyone had done their absolute best to speed up the dismantling of the Leviathan, store, catalogue and calculate the value of the creature between the stare of Legendary Beasts on one side and relentless enthusiasm on the other.

“Speaking of which, those pharmacists are still pestering us about selling them the Leviathan parts…”

[1] “Haven’t we sold them a lot of things already? Also, didn’t they already run out of money after the second barrel of blood?”

[1] “Some of them want to buy the parts on credit…”

[1] “Deny!”

[1] “Tell them if they want more Leviathan parts, they can bring money,” said Bram, “we didn’t buy the whole Leviathan, but we do have enough parts thanks to Mukouda for letting us pay in instalments…”

[1] Everyone winced at this, but there was no helping it. The Leviathan parts were valuable and would definitely make them money, so long as someone had enough money to spend on the things.

[1] One of the unexpected issues that the Guild encountered was the pricing. What kind of price tag should they place on these… priceless things? In the end, they decided to sell the blood first at 100 gold coins per jar (about 200 ml), which was astonishingly expensive but were quickly snapped up. The Guild has not yet decided on the selling price of things like skin, bones, fangs, liver etc.

In the end, it was decided that they would auction these things in stages, the Guild had to recover their loss of money as well as gather the money to pay Mukouda the remaining 120,000 gold.

“Actually, I’m not too worried about the Leviathan issue since it is more or less resolved but…”

“That legendary place…”

“Rather than legendary… that place is more like something out of a fairytale…”

“How did he manage to drop something even more troublesome than a giant Leviathan on our laps?”

“Also, that new species of dragon…”

“Extinct now… if Mukouda’s word is to be trusted…”

“…hhaaahhh…”

Looks like there will be no rest for the elders as yet.

“Yessss~~ let’s work hard again today~~!”

The happiest person in the entire country now was Elland. He was up early as usual, eager to get to work as soon as possible.

“That’s right, I will be dismantling a new species of dragon today. The Supersaurus! Brought in by my best friend Mukouda-san and his trusty party of dragons!”

[2]

It may be late to say this, but this Elf has a rather unusual fondness for dragons. It would be no exaggeration to say that he loves dragons. When it comes to working on anything dragon-related, he would be… very motivated to say the least. Even if there was no one else to support him, he could still happily dive into the work all by himself.

Also.

“What do you mean work? This is a valuable research and fun interesting times!”

This Elf would go on working, no, spending time with his beloved dragons, neither resting nor sleeping fueled by much cheer and happiness.

Unfortunately, even if he doesn’t need any sleep or rest, a certain Moira-sama who had to keep watch over this fellow had to rest. Therefore, she found herself in a curious situation of having to drag this person away from his workplace and force them to go to bed instead of the other way around.

As soon as the first fingers of light touched the sky, this once gloomy elf who usually could not wait to get out of work would jump out of bed as though his body was made of springs and bounced around the room, humming to himself as he got ready for work.

“Hmm~ hm~ hmm~~ ♪ today is another beautiful day~♪ let’s carefully take this fellow apart and compare it to the one before it~”

To Elland the Elf, every day was like heaven.

He got to take an entire Leviathan apart and now, he has the incredible opportunity to dismantle an entirely new species of dragon, twice!

“Haahh… if only you are a tenth as serious with your job…” sighed Moira as Elland practically skipped his way to work.

“Ah, Moira-sama. Good morning~ what a wonderful morning it is~!”

Greetings done, he turned his entire attention to this new species of dragon.

“Are you ignoring me? What a troublesome person…” Moira muttered. “This fellow is knowledgeable and talented on many things, but he transformed into an idiotic genius whenever dragons are involved… [3]”

If he was actually useless, they could have just stashed him somewhere in some basement library, but this fellow is actually a decent guild master, whenever dragons are not involved.

“Oooohhh, hm, hm, I see… so this is what your insides look like~~”

In addition to having these dragons to dissect and study, Elland-san also had the privilege of doing his work with a magic sword borrowed from Mukouda. With each excited exclamation, Moira felt another vein throbbing on her forehead.

“Ah, that’s right,” Moira said out loud as though she had just remembered something, “Mukouda’s party had returned to Careline.”

“Eh? What? Wait, why didn’t you tell me!!?” Elland finally looked up from his dissection. “I didn’t get to see Dora-chan or Grandpa Gon off!!”

“Do you want to just… see them off?” Moira narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

“Well, that’s… of course! It’s great to work on new species of dragons, but I can’t miss an opportunity to interact with living dragons like Dora-chan and Grandpa Gon!! Kuhh~~ what kind of tragic request is this?!”

Moira punched his face almost reflexively.

“You idiot! I didn’t tell you because I knew you would try and see them! Don’t you know that as one of the masters of the Adventurer’s Guild, your priority should be with the Guild?! Do your job properly!!”

After being scolded, Elland quickly went back to work. However, he was not one to be discouraged by such treatment. For the sake of meeting with a dragon, he could be as persistent as a cockroach.

Within the mind of Elland the Dragon Maniac: Considering their good relationship, it is unlikely for Dora-chan or Grandpa Gon to leave Mukouda-san anytime soon. It’s fine. I can bid my time. There is no need to hurry, let’s finish this work properly first and return to Doran. I’m sure I can sneak past Moira’s guard one day and visit my good and wonderful friend Mukouda-san! I shall also join you all on an Adventure! I will never give up! Never! Dora-chan, Grandpa Gon, wait for me!

Bzztt—!!

Mukouda: Somehow, shivers ran down my back just now.

Grandpa Gon: Master felt it too? Rather than cold, it was more like a chilling sensation. As though someone had stroked my scales…

Dora-chan: … I felt it too…

Mukouda, Grandpa Gon & Dora-chan: … …

[Gumihou: …lol!]

[1] I don’t know why they didn’t sell the Leviathan on a commission basis, or why the pharmacist would ‘think they bought the whole Leviathan’. Give the guild people a more reasonable worry than this weird stuff.

[2] Try a different type of writing style

[3] Deleted ‘he’s useless on everything else’, since Elland is NOT actually useless…

Poor Moira gotta be parole officer to that dragon otaku caricature. Hoping Mukouda rewards her for her service every now and then.

Thanks for the translation! Gochisousama deshita!

  2. nga130

Mukouda and the dragons are quite sensitive, with good reasons.
Good (free) chapter to close up the year. Thank you Gumihou for a hard working year, and wonderful translation.

  3. Your friendly neighborhood FBI

I think even if Elland were to be incinerated by dragon breath he would still come back as an undead knight-litch just to haunt the dragons.

He’ll be feared by the dragonfolk as the undead that will not kill you, but make you feel as if you had lost something precious nonetheless.

  4. Filip

Their troubles are quite… rich. I guess it’s more about the anxiety they must be feeling, but they got plenty goodies. Well, having to stay close to that dragon crazy maniac elf under control is surely a humongous minus. Anyway, this lil idle talk hss quite a scary foreshadowing, which I hope it won’t come true. Imagine Elland joining the meat mass murder OP pet party… the world might end.
Thanks for the chapter! Awesome translation! Happy holidays, and may God bless you!

“You know, we still a little more work to do…”
Gumi, i’m not sure, but feels like you missed “have” –> “…we still have a little…”

“With a magic sword borrowed from Mukouda”
Wait, Mukouda go home and forgot to take back the sword ?? Well, he may sure don’t want to see Elland

    1. Maria

Nah, the guild borrowed Caladbolg for a month from Mokouda. They are going to return Caladbolg after that. Just that, there’s going to be a big problem when the guild want to return the sword back to Mokouda….

  7. Otaku Hikikomori

    Thanks for the treat.

  8. RemAishiteru!

    I felt the chills too…
    Thanks!
